Exploring the Future of Nondestructive Evaluation
The American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) will hold its 31st Research Symposium 26 – 30 June 2023. Make plans now to participate in the premier forum for the exchange of advances in nondestructive evaluation.
The theme for the 31st Symposium, Exploring the Future of Nondestructive Evaluation, recognizes the importance of NDE across several industries and generations. The symposium will not only spotlight cutting-edge research but also the students who are the future of NDE research!
The ASNT Research Council Program Committee seeks the following proposals:

The Symposium is soliciting session chair who can organize four or more papers on a subject. Sessions considered include the topics above, as well as any other subject relevant to the NDE community. If you are interested in organizing a session please email Barry Schieferstein, ASNT Director of Conferences and Meetings, at bschieferstein@asnt.org.
Approximately 40 reviewers are need to complete the peer review process. If you consider yourself a subject matter expert in any of the topics listed above, please consider joining a review panel. Reviewers should expect to review 4-6 papers over the course of four weeks. The process is handled completely online in our abstract review and the total time commitment is approximately four hours.
Reviewers who successfully complete the review of all assigned papers will receive a discounted registration to the Symposium.

Returning for 2023 will be a day Tutorials. Held on Monday, 26 June 2023, each Tutorial is expected to last for about 50-60 minutes with ~10-20 minutes of Q/A. They are intended to focus on fundamental issues and not “narrow” advances in technology. Tutorials on major recent advances may be considered if deemed pertinent to the focus of the Tutorials and the needs of the community. These sessions will be and will be made available to all conference attendees for a nominal fee.
Posters are an integral part of ASNT Research Symposium! The Research Symposium does not formally make a distinction between an oral or a poster delivery of a paper, since both go through the same review process of the 2-4 page Proceedings Papers and, once accepted, both appear in the symposium proceedings. In 2023 we are expanding the posters session and making it open to all presenters.
Interested presenters students should check the appropriate box during the submission of the proposal indicating their desire to participate in this session. Subsequent to the review process and the acceptance of the paper, a limited number of Posters will be selected, solely based on the reviews received. These Posters must be authored by the presenting author and may include other co-authors such as student colleagues and advisors, as appropriate. However, the primary research work must have been performed by the presenting author.
Student poster presentations will be entered into the Student Poster Competition. The panel of judges will assemble and rank the Student Posters and the top two will be selected as the recipients of the First Place and Second Place Winners of the 2023 ASNT Research Symposium. The winners will be announced during the Thursday general session and presented with a certificate and awards of $200 and $100 respectively.
Presenters are required to prepare and submit a two to four page Proceedings Paper for inclusion in the peer reviewed ASNT Research Symposium Proceedings. The proceedings, including ISBN and DOI numbers, will be provided to all conference attendees and published in the ASNT Digital Library. The proceedings will be citable and searchable on Google Scholar.
The Symposium proceedings will be made available to the public, in the ASNT Digital Library, via the Creative Commons CC BY-ND 4.0 license.
CC BY-ND 4.0 Explained: By releasing work under the Creative Commons BY-ND-40 license, the author/creator is allowing that iteration of the work to be used anywhere providing proper citations are given. Authors are also encouraged to expand their proceeding paper to eight to ten pages in length for publication consideration in a special Symposium edition of Research in Nondestructive Evaluation (RNDE). Deadline for submission of expanded papers will be 1 October 2023. Details on submitting your work to RNDE can be found at https://asnt.org/rnde.
