Giovanni P. Tomasi is the founding CEO and Chief Technology Officer of RSL Fiber Systems, LLC. He has been involved in the military shipbuilding industry for nearly 40 years, starting in the 1980’s collaborating with the shipyards and the Navy to define the requirements and develop the shipboard fiber optic cables for communication systems. In 2001 he established RSL Fiber Systems to develop and apply novel fiber optic technologies on naval vessels such as fiber optic remote source lighting and remote distributed sensing systems. Giovanni has led multi-industry teams in projects related to fiber optics including developing the cables for the Space Station, the cables and sensors for underground mines, the topside lighting for DDG 1000, and recently to implement fiber optic distributed sensing on U.S. Navy ships. He is author of numerous technical articles and presentations at trade conferences. He holds a bachelor’s degree in physics with a minor in Mathematics from Fairfield University.
