Simplifying the Complex: An Comprehensive POD Analysis App for All NDT Methods

Presentation Description

This presentation introduces a comprehensive, user-friendly Probability of Detection (POD) analysis app specifically tailored for Nondestructive Testing (NDT). The tool is professionally validated, with results confirmed by expert statisticians and cross-checked against established statistical software such as JMP—covering all supported methods. It is fully compliant with NAS-STD-5009 and MIL-HDBK-1823A, supporting all major POD study methods and implementing robust, closed-form statistical calculations for a90 and a90/95.
Unlike traditional approaches that demand deep statistical expertise and rely on complex, time-consuming manual calculations, this innovative app enables NDT inspectors, engineers, and scientists—regardless of statistical background—to quickly and confidently perform validated POD analyses on real data. Key features include built-in model diagnostic checks, clear and actionable reporting, the ability to directly compare multiple datasets using different POD analysis methods, and complete transparency into the equations and methodologies used for POD and confidence bound calculations.
This presentation will demonstrate how these statistical formulas are implemented in practice, providing several examples across different NDT methods using various POD analysis approaches to illustrate the app’s features and applicability. Additionally, future opportunities for customization, extension, and the integration of new features will be discussed, empowering users to adapt the platform for evolving NDT needs and new industry challenges.
