The Evolution of Safety in Industrial Gamma Radiography
Presentation Description
Over the past 50 years, gamma radiography safety improved via enhanced equipment (projector designs, shielding, TLD/OSL dosimeters, alarms) and international regulations (IAEA, ISO) have helped drive consistency around the world. However, incidents persist, primarily due to human error like missed surveys or poorly trained personnel.
With the shortage of RT inspectors, a key challenge is ensuring new personnel are adequately trained and qualified. While rigorous procedures, strong safety culture, and effective, ongoing training are crucial to mitigate risks and address the persistent challenge of human factors in the field, There are technological innovations that can help enhance Gamma RT safety for the workers.
