Advancing Weld Inspection with Full Matrix Capture and Total Focusing Method
Presentation Description
This talk will introduce nondestructive testing professionals to the advanced capabilities of Full Matrix Capture (FMC) and Total Focusing Method (TFM) in ultrasonic weld inspection. As PAUT becomes standard practice, inspectors are increasingly turning to FMC/TFM to overcome its limitations and achieve higher-resolution imaging, improved flaw characterization, and better detection of off-axis and complex geometries.
Through real-world case studies, hands-on data analysis, and guided demonstrations, participants will understand how FMC data is collected and how TFM reconstructs that data for focused imaging across the full inspection zone. Special attention will be given to propagation modes, the selection and limitations of single-mode TFM, and how emerging techniques like intermodal TFM (TFMi) can provide more complete views of challenging indications.
