A New Method for Corrosion Thickness Measurement Under Obstructions

Presentation Description

When performing thickness measurement to determine wall loss on structures from corrosion & erosion, there can be sections with obstructions, obstructions such as, pipe supports can prevent measurement of wall thickness in certain areas.
The outcome is to force an inspector to log the area as "Obst", reducing the inspection confidence.
This new method offers a solution, enabling a simple Ascan based thickness gauge to perform measurement under those obstructions.
This presentation shows early work and investigations of a new inspection method, opening the possibility of solving this issue.

Short Course Description

Biography

Began in NDT as a Service Engineer with Staveley a few years ago....Calibration and Repair of Eddy Current, Ultrasonic, and Bond Testers. My first introduction to Phased Array followed the purchase of Staveley by Olympus. Then on to Honeywell, Sonatest and now with DakotaNDT. Having the privilege to work with some very clever people who willingly passed on their knowledge. Now with Dakota team we are working to push the ability of Thickness, Bolting and Flaw gauges to keep up with the modern world demands.
