Data Strategy is key for NDE 4.0: Building the foundations for Efficiency, Optimization, and AI Applications
Presentation Description
In today's data-rich industrial environments, inspection data must be more than archived reports — it must become a dynamic, trusted asset that drives strategic decision-making. This presentation explores how structuring inspection data — from asset identifiers to inspection events to specification references — unlocks the full value of both human and automated decision-making in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).
We’ll explore how inspection workflows can benefit from organizing three key data categories:
• Core asset data, like part numbers, serials, machine train, etc.
• Transactional Data – actual inspection records: A-scan files from UT, C-scan images, RT film digitals, EC signal traces, borescope videos, and technician notes
• Reference data - design specifications and ideal condition baselines drawn from Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (AMMs), Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), engineering drawings, and acceptance criteria
.
This data is often scattered across unstructured formats, legacy systems, and vendor silos — making it difficult to access, reuse, or build upon. By connecting and organizing this data in a structured, inspection-ready format, we enable a more strategic approach to:
• Operational efficiency, by eliminating redundant inspections and surfacing relevant historical data at your fingertips
• Strategic inspection planning, using a complete view of the asset’s lifecycle to guide “what’s next”
• Enterprise-wide collaboration, with shared access from field inspectors to engineering to executive leadership
• Asset integrity assurance, through a traceable, cradle-to-grave digital passport for every component
Most importantly, well-structured inspection data is the lifeblood of AI and automation.. Instead of seeing results marked as "Generated by AI. Be sure to check for accuracy," we move toward a future where inspections are "Generated by AI. Accuracy check is not required." This presentation will demonstrate how data, not tools, is the true enabler of that future — and how today’s data choices define tomorrow’s NDT capabilities.
