Semi-automated and automated corrosion mapping solutions using phased-array technology
11:00 AM - 11:30 AMPresentation Description
Corrosion mapping produces detailed maps that reveal the extent and severity of corrosion in various assets. It is typically done using semi-automated or fully automated scanners which provide different levels of efficiency, accuracy, and practicality. Semi-automated inspections provide flexibility, cost-effectiveness, ease of use, and the benefit of human oversight, making them suitable for smaller operations or those requiring adaptability. Fully automated inspection offer enhanced accuracy, efficiency, advanced data analysis, reduced human involvement, and integration capabilities, making them ideal for large-scale, high-precision, and high-frequency inspection needs. When it comes to NDT, developing dedicated solutions offer several advantages compared to generic ones, particularly in terms of performance and user satisfaction. We’ll present an example of semi-automated corrosion mapping solution developed to inspect curved surfaces using phased-array technology. Similarly, automated inspections can benefit from more integration such as putting the PAUT electronic on the scanner; this allows for shorter cables making it less sensitive to electric noise and minimizing the weight the scanner needs to drag. Integration of the scanner motion within the PAUT software minimizes the need for external control. We’ll present an example of automated corrosion mapping solution that integrates these various points.
Biography
Frederic Reverdy got his PhD at the University of Bordeaux in 2000 on the topic of Composite Inspection using Laser-Ultrasonics. He worked at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (USA), at the Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) in France, at M2M/Eddyfi developing NDT solutions for various industries. He joined Ekoscan this year. He is an expert in ultrasonic techniques (conventional, TOFD, phased-array, TFM, EMAT, Guided waves, laser ultrasonic).
