Enhanced Method of Dimensional Measurement for Oilfield Tubulars
Presentation Description
Laser technology has transformed measurements of Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG), vital components in the oil and gas industry. This advancement in non-destructive testing (NDT) pioneered an enhanced method for measuring their dimensions with high accuracy, pushing the industry forward.
This presentation highlights a groundbreaking NDT package that combines ultrasonic wall thickness measurements and laser outer diameter (OD) measurements, generating a single, comprehensive inspection report for each OCTG. This innovative approach solves a critical industry challenge: highly accurate estimates of drill pipe volumetric capacity. Traditional methods for estimating drill pipe volume relied on nominal product specifications which do not account for manufacturing variation or loss of material after use among other factors. By understanding and properly managing the volumetric capacity of drill pipe, drilling engineers can help to ensure the safety and efficiency of the drilling process.
