Improvements in the Ultrasonic Inspection of CASS Using Advanced TFM

Presentation Description

This talk will discuss how the advanced total focusing method (TFM) and newer derivative ultrasonic inspection techniques such as Plane Wave Imaging (PWI) and Virtual Source Aperture (VSA) provide a powerful tool for the inspection of CASS (Cast Austenitic Stainless Steel) material and weldments.

Based on the example of a dissimilar metal weld and an EDM notch in a CASS sample, we will look at how these inspection methods work.

We will see how these technologies reduce inspection times while producing great-resolution imaging even for attenuative metals that often represent a challenge in the nuclear industry.
